Tacos TJ 664 is one of our favorite spots in town for lunch and they are members of Quantum CU! Last month I was lucky enough to sit down with Miguel and Priscilla Garcia and talk to them about food, Wichita, their business, and goals.

When did TJ’s Start? Where, and how did it grow?

The restaurant started as a food truck in October of 2018 at an apartment complex’s parking lot near the Keeper of the Plains. The truck became such a popular lunch spot that the parking lot was overrun everyday with hungry taco seekers! After trying a couple of other larger spots out, the restaurant settled into their West Street location at 803 N. West Street. They now have a second location at 3526 N. Rock Road.

With two locations currently open, and busy, what are your plans moving forward?

The goal for the restaurant is to grow! Hopefully in the future they will expand to newer markets while keeping the food and service at exceptional levels. Let them know on Facebook if you’d like to have a Tacos TJ 664 location in your city!

Where does the 664 come from?

664 is the area code for Tijuana. Tijuana is a city in the state of Baja California, Mexico, and is known for exceptional tacos, street food, and other great dishes. Miguel is from Tijuana, and he brought the food, flavors, and style of cooking to Wichita.

What are your best-selling menu items?

Birria tacos are a big seller! And, the shrimp tacos are also super popular. Miguel thinks that prime steak tacos are the next item to trend due to the quality of the meat. The steak tacos are a little more expensive, but they are worth every dime!

The birria ramen is also a big seller and has become one of the most shared foods on Wichita foodies' Instagrams. It’s a big bowl of ramen noodles with beef birria meat and consommé broth. It’s amazing.

Why are your Chips and Salsa so good?

The chips, salsa, and queso are all made fresh and in house. The tortillas are made daily from the Tortilla Factory in town, and then are cut in house and cooked to order. The same tortillas are used for burritos, tostadas (Vampiros), and tacos.

How long has Tacos TJ 664 been members of Quantum CU?

Tacos TJ 664 have been members for 3.5 years, ever since the food truck days.

Awesome items: Two of our favorite items are Chips and Salsa, and Robert’s Vampiro. The runners up are vegetarian taco with cactus, birria ramen, and the cup of consommé. Really though, everything is good!
